Langkawi is one of the blessed islands with beautiful landscapes and greenery. A tourist can experience joy, peace and thrill at one place as the region is full of shrines, beaches and water sports. It has serene turquoise blue watered beaches, waterfalls, jungle treks, picturesque paddy and rubber fields, exciting cruise trips and jungle-clad mountains. The island is especially well known for its excellent diving and other water sport activities. Spanning nearly six acres, Underwater World is one of the most famous attractions on the island of Langkawi. At the southern end of Pantai Cenang next to the Zone Duty-Free Shopping Center, this is the largest aquarium in Malaysia. The white-washed giant formation houses more than 200 different species of marine and freshwater fish, including harbour seals, rockhopper penguins, sharks, giant rays and the giant Amazonian arapaima – the world's largest freshwater fish. Once you enter the A/C interior, Araipamas (the world's largest freshwater fish) can be seen in a medium-sized tank in front of the entrance. The complex is divided into three sections: tropical rainforest, temperate and sub-Antarctic. The sub-Antarctic was probably the most popular section - the 'Penguin-Arium' features cute little rockhoppers and black-footed penguins, which cause enough people to crowd around the exhibit to get a good look. Other highlights of the tourist-friendly Underwater World include an educational resource centre, a cafeteria, and a three-dimensional (3D) theatre – a short film about Michael, a small prehistoric fish and looking at his life before it became a fossil.
