ENTRY FORMALITIES FOR INDIAN NATIONALS TRAVELLING TO BHUTAN
Documents Required For Issuing Permit (Original need to carry while travelling) :
For Adult
- Colour & scanned Passport copy with minimum 06 month Validity OR Election Identity card ONLY for all passengers traveling to Bhutan (Original need to be carried while travelling).
- The ID which is given at the time of booking for issuing the tickets & permit that same ID guest needs to carry. For EG If tickets & permit is issued on the basis of passport than its compulsory to carry passport & if its issued on the basis of Voter ID than guest has to carry Voter ID. If there is any mis-match in this than Bhutan immigration has all the authority to cancel the permit & charge the penalty fees to enter Bhutan. ( Penalty has to be paid directly by the guest at the immigration office )
- Recent colour & scanned passport size photograph (Copy need to be carried while travelling).
- Indian National if flying to/from Bhutan, to/from to any second country can travel only with passport with six month validity.
- Indian National if flying to Bhutan from Nepal require Passport with six month validity along with the NOC from embassy of Indian, Kathmandu if they have entered Nepal using Election ID card.
- OCI (Oversea Citizen of India) & PIO (Person of Indian Origin) passport are not considered as valid document in Bhutan, as Indian Citizen proof.
- All NRI, OCI & PIO passport holder will be considered FOREIGN NATIONALS & will have to pay USD RATE as fixed by the Bhutan Government.
- All FOREIGN NATIONALS tourist must obtain a visa clearance prior to travel to Bhutan. Foreign nationals are required to send the clear readable and viewable photo-page of their passport to us & we will apply for their visa. For your kind information, once the full payment for the holiday has been wire transferred and received by the TCB (Tourism Council of Bhutan), the visa will be processed by them. At the point of entry, foreign nationals will have to show their visa clearance letter, for the visa to be stamped on their passport.
- Oversea Travel Insurance with Covid Coverage is required for travel to Bhutan.
Notes : Advance Entry & route permit can only be process & procured for guest travelling with passport, rest all guest need to get the entry permit upon arrival after due documents & payment of SDF (Sustainable Development fee).
For Children (Whose Parents Are Indian Passport Holders)
- Color & scanned Passport copy with minimum 06 month Validity OR Birth Certificate in English ONLY for all passengers traveling to Bhutan (Original need to be carried while travelling).

- Along with School / College identity card. They must be accompanied by their parents with Election ID card / Valid Indian Passport. (Bona-fide letter from School or College are not valid documents for Bhutan Entry for minors).
- Indian national children if flying to/from Bhutan, to/from to any second country require six month valid passport only.
- Indian National if flying to Bhutan from Nepal require Passport with six month validity along with the NOC from embassy of Indian, Kathmandu if they have entered Nepal using Birth Certificate or any other documents.
- For Foreign National Children six month valid passport along with valid visa is the only valid document for entry into Bhutan.
The Following Points To Be Noted For Child Rate
Majority of the hotels follows the child policy mentioned below:
- Children above 10+ years will be considered as an adult and will be charged as per EPSR rate.
- Children of 5+ to 10 sharing room with bed / Mattress & Roll Over / Fixed day-bed / Dewan will be charged as per CWB rate.
- Children of 5+ to 10 sharing room without bed / rollaway or mattress will be charged as per CNB rate.
- Children below 5 years will be complimentary without bed (sharing the parent’s room).
Notes :
- Hotels are very strict with the child policy. Please carry the age proof so that it can be produced when asked for.
- Some of the 4 star & 5 star hotels have the policy of charging for all child above 3 years as per CWB & CNB. Child below 03 years is treated as complimentary.

- Only person possessing a Passport / Election ID Card (the original needs to be carried on travel) will be eligible to travel to Bhutan. No other document is considered valid for travelling into Bhutan. In case the guest is travelling with an improper / tampered documents this is considered a crime and is liable to be detained from boarding (for such case the airlines charge full cancellation with zero refund) / imprisonment / cash fine or both.
- In case the guest is using a passport for travelling, it must be minimum six months valid from the date of departure from Bhutan.
- Indian National below 18 years who do not have a passport must produce a birth certificate in hard copy (original) for procuring the entry permit. For the case where the traveler is using the printed version of online birth certificate, it must be Notarized / Certified as being a true copy of the original.
- Birth certificates issued in local language should be translated in English and must be support by Affidavit issued by a Notary.
- The entry & route permit can only be processed in advance only for guest travelling with Valid passport / Election ID Card / Birth Certificate.
- The documents which will be shared for permit issuance will have to be same which needs to be carried while travelling.
- For SDF & Permit, we would require scan copy of the valid ID at least 12-15 working days in advance. The scan copy of the passport / Election ID Card / Birth Certificate has to be in color, clear & readable.
- Travel Insurance with Covid-19 Coverage.
- Covid Vaccination certificate (for minimum 2 doses).
- Current color passport size Photograph
- The entry permits are given based on the duration of stay or flight tickets booked by the guest. There is a provision to extend the stay in Bhutan after arrival which has to be processed from Thimphu on a working day (other than Saturday, Sunday & Government Holidays) with proper reason & documents. This extension of permit for Tourism is for maximum 30 days from the date of entry in Bhutan.
